At its Dec. 1 meeting, Middletown’s Common Council unanimously supported a resolution granting permission for the Jonah Center to develop the city’s closed landfill (aka “midden”) into an environmental education and recreation area. The site overlooks a large marshland — the Floating Meadows — populated by herons, egrets, cormorants, osprey, eagles, ducks, beaver, muskrats, and deer.
We will announce next steps and updates on this project in the coming months. For now, we rejoice in this milestone and thank Mayor Nocera; Marek Kozikowski, Director of Land Use; and members of the Common Council for their support. Click on the image above to watch a short drone video showing the Midden (or landfill) in relation to the Floating Meadows between Middletown and Cromwell. The Midden Lookout Park is the green area just beyond the solar array that comes into view toward the end of the drone flight.
