Many hands truly do make light work at the Midden

Another successful volunteer work party was held last Sunday!
If you want to be “in the know” for future events and would like to support this project in any way, consider joining the Trail Blazers. This group hears Midden news first…next work party events and other on-site activities too.

THANK YOU!
Volunteers showed up to this work party with unique talents (and tools!) and worked together like they’ve known each other for years! We were thrilled to have 15 volunteers commit an hour and a half of their day to help us clear Mugwort and brush on the new Loop Trail.

The next time you visit, you can now walk to the end of the flat path along the Mattabesett River before taking a left turn to climb to the top of the landfill. The Loop Trail is about 750ft long and about 8ft wide in most places, thanks to the work of the Trail Blazers last week. The new trail provides a more gradual incline than the gravel road past the solar panels.

Get out there to check it out and bring a friend because our foot traffic is one way to suppress the sprouting Mugwort! Our next work party to begin suppressing invasive Mugwort at the Midden Cap will be announced soon.

An official Midden Lookout Trail kiosk is in the works!

We are excited to share that Charlie Lenihan, senior at Middletown High School and Eagle Scout candidate, will be leading the design, fundraising and building of a new kiosk for the Midden Lookout Park.

Click here to read a short bio that Charlie shared with us to introduce himself to the Jonah Center Community and the Midden project.

My name is Charlie Lenihan, and I am fundraising and building a kiosk for the Midden Trail as my Eagle Scout project. I have been involved in Scouting for 10 years, and this project represents the culmination of my efforts to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Through this project, I am leading volunteers and coordinating resources to create a structure that will benefit the community by providing important trail information and enhancing the visitor experience.

I am tied to the north end of Middletown because my mom is a kindergarten teacher at Macdonough.  I have spent my days helping her get her classroom ready in the summer, volunteering in her classroom and I went to preschool at Macdonough as well.  I have spent many days at the playground at the school and this trail will be a nice addition to the north end.  I am currently a senior at Middletown High School, where I have participated on both the rowing and swim teams. I am also enrolled in the Vo-Ag program, where I study farm mechanics, further developing my hands-on skills and work ethic.

Thank you, Charlie
