It was a chilly, wet Saturday afternoon, November 22nd. But our volunteers were warmed by the spirit of sharing the HeatSmart program with Middletown neighbors!

Wesleyan College of the Environment interns for Sustainable Middletown, helping with two Jonah Center initiatives: HeatSmart and the Midden Lookout Park.
This was our first of three planned canvassing events, meeting neighbors where they are, to promote the HeatSmart Middletown program. This important program helps people save money on their energy bills and reduces pollution in our community. Access links at the end of this article to learn more about the program.
Canvassing Highlights:
1.) No previous experience required. Before the event, we reviewed the HeatSmart brochure and safety guidelines. This small but mighty team felt prepared for questions.
2.) “DEFINITELY! | I had so much fun canvassing | Absolutely!” – We asked these volunteers if they’d join us for canvassing again. Regroup lunch at Perk on Main was a hit!
3.) Heartwarming. Most people we spoke to knew about HeatSmart, shared their own positive experiences about the program, and were glad we were sharing this information. And the event resulted in sign-ups for Home Energy Solutions Assessments!
Join us for spring canvassing! Saturday, March 21st and Saturday, April 18th.
We’ll cover a larger area with more volunteers.
Use the sign-up button below to choose how you’d like to be involved. If canvassing is not your thing, there are other ways you can help!
