A New Path Forward: Mayor’s Walk Kicks Off Community Trail Development

To date, thirty people supported the new trail at the Midden Lookout by attending public walks, including Mayor Gene Nocera, who is very interested in the community vision for this amazing space. It’s time to get more organized to keep this project going!

Walking at the Midden:
Acting Middletown Mayor, Gene Nocera!

Here are two ways to get involved:

Sign up here to join us at our next walk, Thursday, October 2nd at 5PM, for an early sunset view. Plus, an optional post-walk meet-up at Forest City Brewery.

Join our official “Trail Blazers” Group to commit to actively supporting the Midden Lookout Park and Trail. We’ll use the Trail Blazers distribution list to share milestones, public meetings, calls for time and talent, and moments to celebrate along the way. Keep reading for a recap of our walk with the Mayor.

Our last walk was on a cool, comfortable morning, Wednesday, August 20th. It was perfect weather for outdoor exercise, to admire the view of the meadows and consider the possibilities.

The purpose of this event was to get the blessing of city leadership to continue working toward transforming the landfill into a trail and recreation area.

Along with the Mayor, we had at least one representative from the Middletown Land Use Department, the Public Works Department and the Common Council join us.

During our walk and conversation, we all agreed on the potential benefits this project has for the North End community and as another unique and creative Middletown experience. It felt very much like a collective vision and partnership was beginning to take shape.

So what’s next?

We were asked to share the project with the appropriate city commissions to solidify the partnership and begin planning next steps.

Community support at this stage can make a big impact. The commission and council meetings will be important moments to show your passion and support for the Midden Lookout Park and Trail (final name TBD!). We’ll be thrilled to see the friendly faces of the Jonah Center community at this meeting and future events. Join the Trail Blazers distribution list to stay in touch and support the project.
