Over 250 Middletown Homes will Lower Energy Bills without Sacrificing Comfort – Is Yours Next?

By the end of this year, over 250 Middletown homes will complete a home energy assessment—most by this fall.

All Middletown residents can participate in HeatSmart Middletown.

Residents who have their home assessed save $70-$100 per year on their energy bills, and additional upgrades can lead to even more savings.

How are we reaching 250 homes in the year of America 250?  

Here’s something to celebrate! With help from Lisa Liesener, Middletown’s Recycling and Sustainability Coordinator, we connected with the Middletown Housing Authority. Executive Director Ben Bare has committed to completing energy assessments at Housing Authority homes in the Rockwood Acres, Sunset Ridge, and Santangelo Circle neighborhoods.

Kristen Colombo, Jonah Center Director

The members of the Jonah Center Board are delighted to announce that on September 1 Kristen Colombo became the Center’s new Director. Kristen first contacted the Jonah Center in the fall of 2024 to ask about volunteer opportunities in furtherance of clean energy and sustainability. She had recently taken early retirement from Verizon Communications, where she headed up curriculum design and project management, building employees’ leadership skills and fostering career development. A glimmer of good news this Earth Month…

It’s official! The Middletown Resource Recycling Advisory Commission (RRA) is transitioning to the Middletown Sustainability Commission (MSC).  

How did this happen?  

Through the dedication of the RRA and resident advocacy, this important ordinance change has been discussed publicly and passed through the Public Works & Facilities Commission as well as the General Council before it moved forward to the Middletown Town Council for discussion and approval.  

On April 8th, Middletown Common Council members heard final public comments from the community and unanimously approved this change!
